MEP Middle East Awards: Bigger Than Ever

The 8th annual MEP Middle East Awards is set to take over Sofitel

SPECIAL REPORTS, Projects, MEP Middle East Awards

Save the date! The eighth annual MEP Middle East Awards is set to take over Sofitel Dubai The Palm Resort & Spa on Wednesday 26 November.

While it may be over six months away, there are some major changes to the awards categories this year, meaning early attention is required from those aiming to participate.

The industry should be pleased to learn that there are more chances to win an award than ever before. The traditional twelve categories have been increased to fourteen, with seven of those categories having never before made an appearance at the event.

The categories to survive the cut are a mixture of award giants (Contractor of the Year, Consultant of the Year, GCC Project of the Year) and ever-popular stalwarts (Young Engineer of the Year, Project Manager of the Year, Project Manager of the Year, and Health and Safety Initiative of the Year).

Other old categories have been adapted to spread the industry love. Engineer of the Year has been divided into Mechanical Engineer of the Year and Electrical Engineer of the Year to acknowledge MEP’s specialisms.

This logic has also been applied with the addition of Mechanical Project of the Year, Electrical Project of the Year, and Public Health (Plumbing) Project of the Year, which are simply designed to celebrate exceptional work in a particular aspect of a project rather than the MEP project as a whole.

The Sustainable Project of the Year category from previous editions of the awards has been dropped on the basis that all of the other project awards should have sustainability at their heart.

Meanwhile, the Specialist Consultant of the Year award has been adapted to Boutique Consultant of the Year to encourage those smaller consultancies in the industry to put themselves forward for the often outstanding work that they do in the region.

Finally, the only entirely new category in this year’s awards is MEP Executive of the Year. This award is designed to celebrate the business leaders in the industry who appreciate the value of engineering and the importance of rewarding it appropriately.

With a firmer focus on acknowledging engineering excellence throughout the industry, the 2014 MEP Middle East Awards should be the biggest, best and most popular ever. For more details go to www.constructionweekonline.com/mep-awards.
