Move to prevent rogue agents exploiting strong demand for property

Dubizzle, the Dubai-based classifieds website, has announced the launch of an authentication initiative for property agents operating outside the Emirate.

The website said the move would prevent rogue agents from exploiting the current strong demand for property in the UAE.

It said that Dubai-based agents must submit a valid RERA ID before they post a property ad for the first time on the portal, to ensure he or she is authorised to sell properties.

However, similar security measures could not be imposed for agents operating outside the Emirate as agents do not have a real estate ID to submit as proof of legal practice.

Now, they will be asked to upload a copy of their employment visa or labour card that clearly shows the sponsor's name along with a trade licence copy that states that the company is allowed to practice real estate brokerage activities.

Dubizzle said an agent will only have to do this once and it will be valid until expiry of the document. Once verified by Dubizzle, an agent can continue posting property ads.

The agent authentication initiative will help to eliminate freelance agents, and increase the quality of property ads posted on Dubizzle to offer a better user experience for all those browsing Dubizzle property, the website said.

Ann Boothello, property product marketing manager at Dubizzle, said: "We believe it's a shared responsibility for us and our agents to offer the buyers and tenants that look for property using Dubizzle, the peace of mind that they are dealing with real and legally practicing agents.

"As the providers of an online real estate trading ground we feel this is a necessary step to help protect our users from any illegal agent activities," she added.

Dubizzle.com launched in 2005 and is available in Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, and the UAE.
