The $2.9bn (AED 10.8bn) Midfield Terminal Building (MTB) project at Abu Dhabi International Airport is “absolutely on schedule and within budget,” Gulf News has reported a top executive as saying.

MTB, which will be used by Etihad Airways and its partner airlines, is set to open on 17 July, 2017.

“The steel of each of the four piers are now almost complete and the distinctive shape of the complex becoming increasingly visible,” Ali Majed Al Mansouri, chairman of Abu Dhabi Airports, was quoted as saying.

The piers, where passengers will board from, will be able to accommodate up to 65 aircraft, he said.

A joint venture between Arabtec and Turkey’s TAV are building the new terminal complex.
