ENOC to provide Euro 5 diesel in UAE from July
ENOC announces introduction of ultra-low-sulphur diesel (ULSD) to UAE
Emirates National Oil Company (ENOC) has announced that it will distribute ultra-low-sulphur diesel (ULSD) at its service stations from 1 July 2014.
The Euro 5-compliant diesel will be rolled out in accordance with the latest standards from the Emirates Authority for Standards & Metrology (ESMA). ENOC says that the move will help to reduce vehicle-related pollution and greenhouse gas emissions.
“The UAE is setting a global benchmark with ESMA’s new recommendation to use the cleaner Euro 5 diesel,” said Saeed Khoory, chief executive officer of ENOC.
“This is a significant step in the country’s concerted efforts to reduce the carbon footprint and promote environmental sustainability. By adopting the cleaner and greener diesel, motorists can contribute to reduced carbon, particulates, and greenhouse gas emissions,” he explained.
ENOC has also revealed that as part of its commitment to encourage people to switch to fuels that are more environmentally friendly, it will absorb the additional cost associated with the provision of Euro 5 diesel compared to traditional diesel.
“ENOC has always been at the forefront in promoting green technologies and services,” said Khoory.
“As part of our corporate social responsibility commitment, we are also absorbing the extra cost involved in distributing Euro 5 diesel to further popularise its use by motorists. Together, we can contribute to achieving the ‘green economy for sustainable development’ vision announced by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai,” he added.
The Euro 5 fuel boasts an ultra-low sulphur content of 10 ppm compared to the 500 ppm found in traditional diesel. ULSD will be made available at ENOC and EPPCO service stations in phases; the company will introduce the fuel at key Dubai sites at the beginning of July before rolling it out across its entire network.
