Atkins has picked up a pair of hospitality projects in Ras Al Khaimah.

The engineering firm told CW that it is was working on building hotels at both Marjan Island and Al Hamra Village.

Design director Joe Tabet said that as of four months ago Atkins has been providing full design and supervision for a 650-keys hotel at Al Hamra Village. The privately-owned project is at the schematic design stage and due to complete in 2017.

‎"There is some construction site work but at the moment it is only in the preliminary stages," he said.

The other scheme again involves full design and supervision, this time for the extension of the existing DoubleTree Hilton at Marjan Island. The project started two months ago and is due to finish also in 2017.

“As a pipeline in RAK we’re already chasing six projects, so the potential is quite big there at the moment,” said Tabet.

“The UAE market has been picking up for almost 18 months now and you can say that RAK started eight months ago.”
