UK-based Shield Security Systems has sponsored the first Security Service Provider of the Year Award, at this year's facilities management Middle East Awards.

Commenting on the decision to support the Awards, Adil Abdel-Hadi, managing director, Shield Security Services, said: "The awards event seeks to recognise the quality of the security services provided in Dubai while acknowledging the importance of security to businesses and the community as whole.

"By sponsoring this event, we hope that the professional security companies in Dubai will get the recognition they deserve. We would like to see this Excellence Award to become the Oscar of the security industry.

Last year, the company entered into a partnership agreement with the Security & Administrative Sciences Institute of Dubai Police Academy, to provide training courses for security professionals in the region, including, security managers, security systems operators, security systems integrators, security guards and door supervisors.

All security professionals now have to be legally trained to a minimum standard, nominees entering the Awards must ensure they have been adhering to this legality.

"The winning company will instantly raise its profile. I think it will receive widespread media exposure and be able to showcase its success at exhibitions like Intersec. Most importantly, it will be able to market its award to the customers and staff as an endorsement of best practice," added Hadi.

Shield Security Systems was established in 1986 and provides the UK market with manned guarding, mobile patrol, CCTV remote monitoring, key holding and emergency response, vehicles tracking and consultancy services.

When Hadi was asked why he decided to sponsor the awards, he said: "We thank facilities management Middle East for introducing this new award that reflects the changing landscape of the security industry.

"We also thank it for the opportunity offered to us to be sponsors of this award as this is the first time and it is the only award that recognises excellence and the importance of improving standards across the security sector."
