New concourse at DXB to be trialed
The fourth concourse is to officially open next year
A trial run of a fourth concourse at Dubai International Airport is expected to take place soon.
Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, president of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and chairman of Dubai Airports, said Concourse D will soon become a reality.
The new concourse will be connected to an existing terminal by automated train and is due to open in the first quarter of next year.
It is part of the $7.8bn expansion programme designed to boost the airport's capacity to over 100mn passengers annually by 2020.
Passenger numbers are to be boosted by the recent completion of the runway refurbishment programme.
Some 70mn passengers expected to pass through DXB this calendar year.
“We are confident the completion of the major runway refurbishment programme in our history and full schedule operations ahead of the Eid Al Fitr holidays will bring in a significant surge in air traffic,” said Al Maktoum.
The development of Al Maktoum International Airport, with an eventual capacity of 160mn passengers, is also progressing in phases, he added.
