Dusit Thani Dubai retains EarthCheck Silver status
This is the fourth year in a row the hotel has won this certification
Dusit Thani Dubai has been awarded the EarthCheck Silver Certification for the fourth year in a row in recognition of its high standard of environmental practices.
EarthCheck, an internationally recognised environmental management and certification program designed for the travel and tourism industry, helps determine a company’s standard of environmental, social and economic performance and requires compliance with international standards.
"After continuously certifying with EarthCheck for four years, the entire team of Dusit Thani Dubai celebrates this success with a strengthened enthusiasm to aim for Gold Certification in 2015,” said Sebastiao Ferrao, chief engineer, Dusit Thani Dubai.
“Years of certification against the EarthCheck Company Standard is a true testament to Dusit Thani Dubai's commitment in adhering to the highest science-based standards to enhance the environmental, economic and social sustainability of our initiatives,” Ferrao added.
In order for Dusit Thani Dubai to gain EarthCheck Certified status, the five-star hotel was required to submit a year's worth of operational data to EarthCheck for benchmarking purposes. This was then compared to the operational data submitted by similar organisations, before being rated against baseline and best practice levels.
Dusit Thani Dubai was also required to submit to independent, third party auditing to verify the accuracy of their sustainability claims.
Their policies require the use of energy-efficient lighting, minimisation of water consumption, recycling of solid waste products and use of recycled products whenever possible, resulting in a decrease in the hotel’s greenhouse gas emissions.
