Al Hassan wins $68mn Sohar refinery contract

Firm to carry out civils and underground pipework at upgrade project

NEWS, Business

Omani contractor Al Hassan Engineering Company has announced that it has landed a contract to carry out civils and underground piping work at the Sohar Refinery Improvement Project in Oman.

The company has been employed by the Daelim-Petrofac joint venture appointed to handle the $2.1bn project. It was appointed in November last year by Oman Oil Refineries and Petrochemicals Company.

Al Hassan Engineering said it expects to generate "reasonable income" from the project.

The refinery, which is based in Sohar around 230km north west of Muscat, was originally opened in 2006.

The improvement work includes the addition of new refinery units. Once complete, it will increase the capacity of the refinery by over 70%.
