Parsons wins extra Dubai canal work

Firm to design infrastructure for Roads and Transport Authority

NEWS, Projects

US-based consultancy Parsons has been appointed by Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) to perform infrastructure design services for the $544mn Dubai Water Canal Project.

The work is in addition to the project management deal the firm is carrying out in a joint venture with Halcrow that was signed in May this year, it added.

Hamed Zaghw, president of Parsons International, said: “Parsons has been working with RTA for many years, and we look forward to continuing to be RTA’s partner of choice for this landmark project.”

The Dubai canal project will see the extension of an existing canal in the Business Bay district out to the Arabian Sea. It will add 6km to the waterway through Safa Park, Al Wasl Road and the Jumeirah area.

The construction work has been broken into three packages, which are being carried out by China State Construction Engineering Co, Besix and Turkish firm Gunal.

The project will include a new shopping centre, and the canal's banks will be lined by hotels, restaurants, luxury housing and new cycle paths.
