Samsung awarded Singapore EPC contract
LNG Terminal Extension Phase 3 Project is worth $542mn
Samsung C&T Corporation has been appointed engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor by Singapore LNG Corporation Pte LTd (SLNG) for the expansion of Singapore LNG Terminal. SLNG Corporation is a subsidiary company of Singapore Energy Market Authority.
The LNG Terminal Extension Phase 3 Project is worth $542mn and will add a fourth liquefied natural gas (LNG) storage tank and more regasification facilities to the existing LNG terminal, located in Jurong Island.
The work is to further expand the terminal’s send-out capacity from 6mn tonnes per annum (Mtpa) to 11 Mtpa. The new 260,000m3 storage tank will be the world-largest of its kind.
Construction is expected to be completed by 2018.
“We are honored to have an opportunity to contribute to Singapore's energy supply security and its transformation into LNG trading hub in Asia. Based on the strong relationship with SLNG, Samsung C&T will strive to deliver outstanding results for the project with our priorities on safety and quality,” said Chi Hun Choi, president & CEO of Samsung C&T.
Samsung C&T has experienced various LNG terminal and tank projects worldwide, including the first LNG terminal in Singapore. The company worked on the construction of three 180,000m3 tanks and send-out facilities from 2010. It successfully delivered the project in time and within budget while accomplishing 17mn safety man-hours without any lost time injury (LTI). The terminal began operations in May 2013 after 39 months of construction while the secondary jetty was completed at the end of March 2014.
