Bahrain-based developer Diyar Al Muharraq has announced the completion of the foundation construction of key parts of its Dragon City project in the Gulf kingdom.

More than 20% of the total construction work needed on the project, is now complete, according to builder Nass Contracting.

Dragon Mall and the Dining Street is scheduled to be completed in June 2015, a statement said.

Dr Maher Al Shaer, CEO of Diyar Al Muharraq, said: "We are immensely pleased to be on target with the foundations of both the Mall and the Dining Street. We are all about precision and promptness and with Nass Contracting working meticulously to complete the Dragon City project, we are well within achieving our completion date."

Dragon City is a 115,000m2 development set in the southwest corner of Diyar Al Muharraq city.

The Mall design is infused with Chinese architectural and cultural aspects, in a layout which incorporates 750 retail store spaces and a 4,500m2 area designated for warehouses.

The 6,000m2 Dining Street also includes car parking space for 1,500 customers, the statement said.

"Dragon City aims to attract foreign investments that serve the national economy and allow for the provision of employment opportunities, in addition to meeting consumer demands," it added.

The facility will offer a variety of Chinese products such as home appliances, household items, building materials, furniture, toys, machinery, garments, textiles, footwear and general merchandise.

Dragon City is expected to attract more than half a million visitors a year.

China’s fast-emerging middle class is boosting tourists and shoppers to the GCC. Dubai developer Nakheel is doubling the size of its Dragon Mart Mall, adding an additional 1.7m ft2 of retail space and 5,000 parking spaces at the China-themed mall.
