Emirates Green Building Council (EGBC) has launched the ‘Green Tips for Schools’ campaign to mark the Green Apple Day of Service, a global movement observed annually in the last week of September that aims to transform all schools into healthy, safe and productive learning environments.

EGBC is marking the occasion by distributing ‘green tips’ to over 25 educational institutions across the UAE that highlight steps they can follow to promote the efficient use of energy, and to conserve the environment as well.

Saeed Al Abbar, chairman, EGBC, said: “It is important that we instil the importance of environmental conservation and rational use of resources in our young generation at the early age. Schools play a central role in further strengthening awareness.”

“Our campaign has been designed to encourage students and schools to adopt several easy steps that will lead to a positive impact on the environment,” Al Abbar said.

Key highlights of the EGBC tip sheet include recommendations to aspire for a paperless work ethic, avoid plastic bottles and paper cups, switch off lights when not in use, etc.

The tips also include information on how to improve air quality, the need to recycle ink cartridges, measuring the classroom’s carbon footprint and incorporating sustainability in the curriculum, among others.
