DSOA signs MoU with DCCE
The two will work together to create jobs in the environment sector
Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority (DSOA), the regulatory body for Dubai Silicon Oasis (DSO), has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Dubai Carbon Centre of Excellence (DCCE) that will see the two work collaboratively to create jobs in the environment sector and engage the Emirate’s youth in driving its sustainability mandate.
The MoU was signed at the DSOA headquarters by Eng. Waleed Salman, chairman, DCCE, and Eng. Muammar Al Katheeri, executive vice president, engineering management department, DSOA.
Commenting on the MoU, Salman said: “At DCCE, our mission is to secure our planet for future generations by helping to build a green economy that reflects the aspirations of our leaders.”
“As a pioneer in enabling the IT industry to shape a green economy in the UAE, DSOA will augment our efforts in building a sustainable ecosystem with its in-depth knowledge and best practices,” Salman said. “Our long term objective is to provide access to better information and enhanced training methods as we direct our energies towards helping the UAE establish its green credentials.”
Al Katheeri added: “As pioneers in driving the sustainability agenda across all our developments, our partnership with DCCE is in line with our CSR strategy that focuses on the environment, human capital and community.”
“A green and sustainable economy can only be built with the collaborative and holistic engagement of all stakeholders,” he explained. “Our partnership with DCCE will allow us to harness our efforts in creating a viable and organic economy.”
“The successful implementation of the programs will help us reach out to the next generation with our message of sustainability and fast track the country’s transition to a green economy,” Al Katheeri added.
Under the MoU, DSOA will play an active role in DCCE’s Carbon Ambassador Program and work with a select group of university students in the areas of sustainable development and the reduction of carbon emissions.
As part of this engagement, DSOA will contribute to hosting workshops, lectures, site visits, competitions and other activities to create social awareness and provide the youth with an opportunity to interact with business partners at the hi-tech free zone.
The MoU also enlists DSOA’s engagement as a working partner in DCCE’s Green Jobs program. As part of the agreement, DSO will leverage social media, public exhibitions and a series of events to showcase best sustainable practices and the latest careers in the environment landscape.
In addition to the participation in these programs, DSOA will also support the publication of two industry-wide reports on the ‘State of Energy’ and ‘State of Green Economy’ in 2015.
