As part of the North Road enhancements project works, the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) will be closing Umm Ethnaitain interchange exit heading north on Al Shamal Road leading to the army camp.

The closure will start on Sunday 19 October 2014 and will last for two months until 18 of December.

Travelling in the direction of the camp motorists will need to reach Al Zubara Interchange, make a U-turn and then go right towards the camp.

On exiting the camp north-bound motorist will have to continue to Al Ghesen Interchange and make a U-turn.

The diversion is being implemented to allow for the construction of an improved two-lane service road on the eastern part of Al Shamal Road.

This forms part of a greater project, the Expressway Programme, where service roads will be constructed along the North Road corridor from the north side of Doha City at Al Duhail Interchange, to the City of Al Shamal in the north of Qatar.

The work will include the construction of two new interchanges, while seven existing interchanges, including Al Kaaban Interchange, which connects to the Al Huwailah Link Road, will be upgraded to increase accessibility and improve traffic flow.

Al Khor Road will also be improved with a link road between North Road and Umm Birkah Road and, in addition, a cycle path will be constructed along the length of the North Road.

The total length of the works is 95.2km and the project will provide access to new developments and improve connections to the north of the country.

Also, dedicated pedestrian and cycle bridges across the North Road will enhance safety for all road users, along with improved access to new and existing developments adjacent to this stretch of highway. Soft and hard landscaping will add to the aesthetic driving experience along the entire North Road.
