Andrews appointed MD of Laing O'Rourke Middle East
Andrews will cover operations in the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia
Laing O’Rourke has appointed Mark Andrews as managing director of their Middle East business.
Andrews will cover operations in the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia and will have lead responsibility for driving the development and delivery of the company's growth strategy, with particular focus on Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
He joins the company from Arabtec Holding – one of the leading construction services companies in the UAE – where he was chief operating officer.
Andrews graduated in civil engineering from Imperial College London in 1980, and joined Chicago Bridge and Iron Company where he spent nine years in a variety of senior project delivery roles, many based in the Middle East.
Following a five year period working in senior corporate planning and marketing roles in the chemicals and petroleum industry with BOC Group, he joined Balfour Beatty in their major projects division, before leading their utilities business.
He has also held the chief executive role in North America for Pirelli, before leading NG Bailey for six years as chief executive where he helped develop a specialist offsite manufacture division.
Andrews has an MBA from Cranfield and is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology and the Chartered Institute of Management. He has been awarded an OBE for services to apprenticeships, education and training in the construction industry.
He said: “Laing O’Rourke has a strong brand and reputation in the Middle East for delivering on its promises for customers, while focussing on the safety and welfare of its workforce.
"The investments the group is making in engineering and manufacturing demonstrates the level of ambition the group has to lead real industry innovation. I have no doubt that such innovation will be of considerable interest to key clients in the Middle East.
"As the global economy emerges from recession, this is an exciting time to be part of this change, and I’m really looking forward to meeting the team and getting started.”
