Safa Park road diversions begin
A number of road diversions are in place as work on the Dubai Canal begins.
Further diversions near Safa Park are being put in place today (30 October) while the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) reroutes traffic for half a kilometre along Al Wasl Road.
The diversion is likely to affect traffic in both directions. However, the RTA has assured motorists that the number of lanes will stay the same.
“Works are up and running in constructing the Dubai Water Canal and progressing according to the approved timeline,” Maitha bin Udai, chief executive of RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency told The National.
“The traffic diversion will be on Al Wasl Road, which includes the traffic flow coming from Jumeirah 3 and Al Safa 1 and to Jumeirah 2 and Al Wasl and vice-versa. The temporary traffic diversion has been constructed with the same number of lanes, and fitted with the required traffic safety means, such as traffic signals, directional signage, cautionary lights and concrete barriers.”
The work being carried out is the laying of utility conduits underneath the canal.
“Construction works will start on the bridge on Al Wasl Road in the direction of Abu Dhabi, once the traffic movement is shifted directly to the traffic diversion,” she added.
Other route changes affecting Dubai include detours on Sheikh Zayed Road between Safa Park and Business Bay, which were introduced last weekend.
