Sorouh targets labour
Abu Dhabi developer picks up on trend to improve living conditions for workers
Sorouh Real Estate has become the latest developer to tap into the booming labour accommodation market after picking up a US $17.5 million (AED110 million) deal to develop a residential compound for employees of the Abu Dhabi Aviation Authority.
Sorouh has awarded Jacobs/CRSS with the project management contract for the residential complex, with AEC as consultant.
Once construction has been completed, the project will be handed back to Sorouh, which will then oversee the operation of the compound.
“We are going to maintain it until the contract expires, said Adnan Awada, project manager at Sorouh.
“This is phase one, we can expand if they decide they need more, he said.
The Abu Dhabi Aviation Residential Complex will be located in sector six off the Airport Road in Abu Dhabi and will occupy a total land area of 112,500m2.
The residential compound will consist of three types of accommodation: two double-storey buildings for 256 labourers, 60 townhouses for bachelors; and 20 double-storey villas for senior management.
Staff accommodation will occupy a total land area of 5,824m2 and will comprise kitchen and dining facilities, a mosque, a private road and parking facility.
The complex for bachelors will include a club, tennis and basketball court, a swimming pool and leisure areas, an office for building maintenance; a private road and parking facility will occupy an area of 64,176m2 in total.
Saeed Al Ghafli, chairman of Sorouh Real Estate, said the project reflected the growing partnership between the private and public sectors, and how such partnerships are a key component of the countrys future development plans.
He added that he hopes it will encourage future partnerships with other public institutions.
