The Big 5 attracts Saint-Gobain and Ideal Standard
The Big 5 2014 has succeeded in securing major first-time, European exhibitors, Saint-Gobain and Ideal Standard
Saint-Gobain and Ideal Standard are to exhibit at The Big 5 for the first time in the show’s history.
The construction event, which will take place in the UAE’s Dubai World Trade Centre next week, has succeeded in attracting an array of first-time exhibitors.
The show’s organiser, dmg events, will host more than 2,700 exhibitors this year, a quarter of whom will be making their Big 5 debuts.
“We’ll see a number of new brands,” explained Andy White, The Big 5’s group event director.
“Saint-Gobain is one of the biggest construction product companies in the world. It has a turnover of €42bn ($52bn) and employs 190,000 people. They’ve never exhibited at the Big 5, but they’re here this year.
“Ideal Standard has never exhibited at the Big 5; they’re here this year,” he added.
Speaking at a pre-show press conference in Dubai, White said that his team’s focus on connecting exhibitors with regional channel partners has acted as a significant driver for the Big 5’s growth.
“We’ve introduced a business-matching service, putting international exhibitors directly in touch with distributors,” he explained.
“Exhibitors can access our online portal and view our extensive database of relevant distributors. They can even contact them before they come to the Big 5 to arrange a meeting.
“By doing this, we’re not only adding some real benefits for international exhibitors participating at the exhibition, but we’re also helping the local economy by encouraging businesses to set up here in the UAE. And it is the UAE; we want them here in the UAE, not in Saudi or Qatar.
“We’re also helping local companies develop long-term partnerships with international brands. I believe this is a unique offering, and goes way beyond organising a trade event. I think it will really help business in the UAE,” he told the audience.
