Qatar awards $4.22bn worth of New Port contracts

Qatar has awarded construction contracts worth a total of $4.22bn (QAR 15.37bn) for its New Port Project, set for completion by 2020, The Peninsula reports.

New Port Project is one of Qatar’s largest infrastructure projects, being built on a 26 km² area at a total estimated cost of $7.41bn.

The first phase of the project, which will provide the port with the capacity to receive two million containers, is scheduled for completion in 2016, according to the report.

The port's full capacity is expected to reach 6 million containers with the completion of the remaining two phases, it added.
