UK-based Kier Dubai has picked up a US $29 million (AED107 million) contract from Dubai Municipality (DM) to provide a comprehensive drainage and storm-water network for Al Warqa 1 in Dubai.

Hussain Nasser Lootah, acting director general, DM said that the project, which is expected to be completed by the end of next year, forms part of the civic body's plans to link new residential areas with the city's main drainage network and reduce the amount of sewage water transported by heavy tankers to just 5% by 2011.

Al Warqa 1 is bordered by Al Awir Road on the South, Nad Al Hamr on the West, Al Warqa 2 on the East and Al Warqa 3 in the North.

The area to be covered by the project is 2.5 million m2 and it will connect more than 430 buildings to the drainage and storm-water network.

"The project will incorporate all advanced design concepts and technology," said Lootah.
