Consortium in $250mn Oman desalination plant deal

Hyflux and National Power and Water has received a letter of award to design, build, own and operate an independent water plant in Qurayyat

A consortium comprising Hyflux and National Power and Water Co has received a $250mn letter of award to design, build, own and operate an independent water plant in Oman.

The Qurayyat facility is a seawater reverse osmosis desalination plant with a designed capacity of 200,000m3 per day.

Under the letter of award from Oman Power and Water Procurement Company, the project is due to start commercial operation by May 2017 under a 20-year water purchase agreement.

Hyflux’s role includes turnkey engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) as well as operations and maintenance of the plant. The value of the EPC contract is $210mn.

The project is not expected to have a material financial impact on Hyflux for the financial year ended 31 December 2014.
