Oman's Minister of Transport and Communications will host a two-day GCC Rail and Metro Conference due to be held at Al Bustan Palace in Muscat next week.

The conference will feature presentations from high-ranking government official from GCC states, as well as CEOs and acting CEOs from Etihad Rail, Saudi Railways Organisation, Oman Rail and Qatar Rail, among others. The conference's organisers have said they expect 500 representatives form 25 countries to attend.

Oman's Minister for Transport and Communications, HE Dr Ahmed Mohammed Salem Al Futaisi said that one of the discussion points will be on making sure as much of the investment in the GCC's rail network as possible will be circulated within member states. Investments in the pan-GCC rail nework alone is predicted to be worth $15.4bn, with total spending including new metro systems in the sector set to be worth around $200bn.

“Our challenge will not just be in how to ensure the success of executing these projects from a technical and operational point of view but on how to exploit the socio-economic potential of these massive investments," he said.

“We have, therefore, taken it as a key development drive of the projects to build manufacturing industry, transfer of technology, rail services and human capital development."

Registration for conference places is currently still open. For more information, email info@ubarconferences.com or call +968 2439 8767.
