Honeywell upgrades Dubai's runways to LED system
First airport-wide LED system was installed at DXB in 80 days
Electronics giant Honeywell has installed the world's first complete LED airfield lighting system at Dubai International Airport (DXB).
Honeywell installed more than 8,200 LED lights and 1300km of cabling in just 80 days, completing the work while keeping the airport operational throughout.
It said the improvements were necessary to improve reliability and ensure the airport's long term viability.
Recently-published Airport Council figures saw DXB overtake London Heathrow as the world's biggest for international passenger traffic, carrying 70.4m passengers in 2014.
“We are extremely proud to have been a part of the DXB runway refurbishment success story," said Honeywell Middle East president Norm Gilsdorf. "This project is a game-changer in terms of promoting efficient, safe and reliable airfield operations.”
