UK-based law firm DWF is opening an office in Dubai targeting developers, contractors and insurance firms.

The firm said that the office is its first outside the UK and Ireland and has been opened as a result of relationships with existing clients seeking support on the ground in Dubai.

The office has been launched with a team of four staff, including two partners who will advise on contentious and non-contentious construction matters, professional indemnity and insurance work. It will be led by insurance specialist Chris Ryan, supported byconstruction specialist Steven Hunt who has joined from law firm Holland & Knight.

It will be based in Dubai International Financial Centre.

DWF managing partner and CEO, Andrew Leaitherland, said: “There is a real opportunity for us in Dubai. We’ve supported clients in Dubai and across the MENA region for many years and it’s become increasingly clear that there is demand for our services on the ground, particularly in relation to construction and insurance work."

DWF has witnessed huge growth over the past decade, moving from a dual office practice with revenues of just over $50m in 2006 to a practice with 12 offices and revenues of $285m in its most recent financial year. The firm employs 2,500 staff.
