Cat introduces new D8R bulldozer to Middle East
Caterpillar says that its updated D8R crawler bulldozer has been designed to enhance operator safety and comfort while simplifying maintenance
Caterpillar has launched its new D8R bulldozer in the Middle East and Africa (MEA).
The latest version of the crawler model, iterations of which have been produced since 1935, offers improved operator safety and comfort while simplifying maintenance, according to the US manufacturer.
The D8R’s redesigned cabin features a range of improvements, including a single-handle control for direction and range selection, and tiller-bar steering to aid precision grading and manoeuvrability.
“The D8R’s new cab, with an integrated roll-over-protective structure (ROPS) and enhanced visibility (especially to the sides of the machine), is quieter and more effectively pressurised to keep out dust for a cleaner operating environment,” Caterpillar explained.
“New pilot-operated controls for the implement hydraulic system reduce operator effort and provide more consistent, precise, and responsive operation,” the manufacturer added.
In addition to its new control and steering system, the D8R will sport a redesigned instrument panel that allows the operator to read analogue gauges with ease. The Cat Electronic Monitoring System will also be provided to keep the operator up to date about the machine’s operating conditions.
The D8R has also been designed with grouped service points, site gauges, fast-fuel-fill capability, and easy access to the engine compartment. The machine’s modular design allows easy access to major power-train components, and individual radiator cores can be quickly replaced.
Moreover, the Product Link telematics system, which work through Cat’s VisionLink user interface, will provide a selection of machine data, including location, event codes, and service hours.
The D8R is powered by a 320hp Cat 3406C DITA engine and features an advanced modular cooling system for the Middle East’s demanding operating environments. The bulldozer has an operational weight of 37.56 tonnes and a blade capacity range of 4.7m3 to 11.7m3.
