A joint venture between Drake & Scull Engineering (DSE) and Habtoor Leighton Specon (HLS) has landed a $107.5m (AED395m) contract for the MEP element of package eight at the Jewel of the Creek project in Port Saeed, Dubai.
The pair will work for HLS's parent firm, Habtoor Leighton Group (HLG) on the contract, which has a value of $4bn. It is being delivered for Dubai International Real Estate.
Jewel of the Creek has been designed by a Kling Consult and Kierferle & Partners joint venture and is a huge, mixed-use project. Package 8 contains five hospitality buildings ranging between 15-19 floors that will include a hotel, serviced apartment buildings, a ballroom and cafe and a marina area.
The development will be linked by four footbridges and one road bridge.
Construction on the project has already started and is targeted to complete by Q2 2017.
Thrasos Thrasyvoulou, CEO and managing director of Habtoor Leighton Specon, said: “The Jewel of the Creek project is of great significance to HLS and the wider Habtoor Leighton Group. We are honoured to have been selected as DIRE’s MEP contractor of choice."
He added that the deal took the value of its current workload to over $1bn.
Ahmad Al Naser, managing director of Drake & Scull Engineering , added that it picked up $1.45bn of new projects last year and its current backlog is worth $39.2bn.
"The Jewel of the Creek is an ambitious and fresh project that will enable us to showcase DSE’s exceptional engineering expertise and help augment Dubai’s hospitality portfolio.
“On a broader scale, the UAE represents one of our bigger markets and so we anticipate further growth in our backlog here."
