The Metro Jeddah Company is to host an industry briefing day on March 30 to go over details of the city’s public transportation master plan.

The Metro Jeddah Company is responsible for implementing the Jeddah Public Transport Programme (JPTP) which consists of a three-line metro and light rail system, bus network, marine ferries and taxis and the supoportiung infrastructure, a tramway on the Corniche, around 46 stations, park and ride facilities and a bridge over the Obhur Creek.

The project is expected to cost $12bn (SAR45bn) and authorities want it to be up and running within seven years.

Last year, Aecom Technology Corp secured an 18-month contract worth US$28m to provide consultancy services to support the preliminary planning and design phase of the Jeddah Public Transport Project.

The briefing will be held over two days and will cover the scheduling, procurement and packaging strategy, and the tendering process. The event is open to consultants, design and build contractors, manufacturers and other interested companies. A site visit to the concerned areas will take place on March 31.

Registrations cost SAR2500 per person, and companies are able to submit the names of up to five representatives. Deadline for registration is March 22.
