Abu Dhabi Ports has announced that it has signed a Musataha Agreement with Advanced Manufacturing Solutions (AMS), a subsidiary of the FourWinds Group of Companies.

The agreement will see the port authority construct a steel foundry at the Khalifa Port’s Industrial Zone (KIZAD).

The facility will produce automotive parts, such as steep brake disks and brake callipers, and will have a capacity of 300,000 metric tonnes per annum, once completed. Developed in three phases, it is expected to become one of the world’s largest single source steel foundries.

Captain Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi, CEO, Abu Dhabi Ports shared: "Abu Dhabi Ports is pleased to welcome its first automotive OEM to KIZAD. The automotive sector in the UAE has been experiencing double digit growth over the past few years, and having a locally based auto parts and accessories foundry, supports this industry and its growth within the Emirates and the region.”

He added: “In addition, the close proximity to Khalifa Port will enable AMS to reach its international customer network quickly and cost effectively. Abu Dhabi Ports is dedicated in providing the necessary support for the successful development of this important project."

The first phase of the project which is estimated to cost $140m (AED514m), will have an installed capacity of 75,000 metric tonnes per annum. The facility’s production will cater to demands both local and international.

The foundry has already garnered the attention of high-end vehicle manufacturers. This including Continental Teves AG, who has entered into an agreement with AMS to buy the full output of its first production line.
