Arabtec has announced that it has appointed Raja Hanmi Ghanma as CEO of Arabtec Construction.

Mr Ghanma has around 35 years of engineering and construction experience and has worked for Arabtec for more than 20 years - most recently as chief operating officer. He holds both a bachelor's and a master's degree in civil engineering from the University of Texas.

In a statement to the Dubai Financial Market, the company said that it has "placed it trust in one of the most experienced staff members to continue working in accordance with the solid approach established by Arabtec Construction over the years".

This recruitment from within is a contrast to the approach taken by the company's former CEO, Hasan Ismaik, who replaced many top-level posts with his own appointments, including bringing former Target Engineering CEO Dr Nabil Aliabouni in as CEO of Arabtec Construction in April last year, and appointing Sami Asad as CEO of its Egyptian subsidiary at the same time.

A chief operating officer, Sameh Muhtadi, was also appointed as chief operating officer of Arabtec Construction's International arm.

However, following Ismaik's departure last year several of his appointees left the business.
