Carillion Alawi celebrated picking up the Health and Safety Initiative of the Year accolade at the Construction Week Oman Awards 2015.

The award was one of three the contractor landed at the prize-giving ceremony held at the Grand Hyatt in Muscat on Monday. The other two were Sustainability Initiative of the Year and Corporate Social Responsibility Initiative of the Year.

Ankur Bhuria – regional IMS manager, Carillion Alawi said: “I would like to thank Construction Week for this wonderful award. Every year Carrillion Alawi looks to create new initiatives to raise our awareness of health and safety. Our main target is target zero, which means no injuries.”

Bhuria said the latest initiative is focused raising healthy and safety awareness among new operatives.

“From our analysis we found that most of our accidents are happening with the new construction operatives, those who are joining us and have less experience. So we did an awareness campaign for them, working together as a family to achieve excellent results.”

Highly commended was Strive to Safe Drive - Bahwan Engineering Company.

The Construction Week Oman Awards 2015 were judged by an independent panel of seven judges, made up of a range of industry experts. If a judge’s company had entered a category then they didn’t evaluate that category.

A total of 13 categories were open for nomination plus a Lifetime Achievement award picked by Construction Week’s editorial team

A big thank you must go to our sponsors who helped to make the evening a great success. They include: Aecom, Famco, Oman Electromechanical Contracting, Logical Decking, CCC, Services & Trade Company, Alemco Zawawi and NAPCO.

The Construction Week Oman Award 2015 was the first of four award evenings to be holding across the GCC this year, with other events set to follow in Qatar and Saudi Arabia, before we hold our GCC finals in December.
