CW Oman Awards 2015: All the winners
Reactions from the winners during the fourth annual Construction Week Oman Awards
A key figure in Oman’s construction sector and founder of the Al Taher Group, Simon Karam was honoured with a lifetime achievement award during the Construction Week Oman Awards 2015.
The Awards were held at the Grand Hyatt in Muscat, and Karam was there to accept the award.
Karam, who first visited the Sultanate in 1970 as a temporary replacement for a project manager on an airbase, never went home and instead, three years later, founded his own construction company which grew to become the Al Taher Group, a conglomerate covering civil engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, the petroleum sector, real estate, trading and investments.
The company has become a major player in the Sultanate’s construction market, building prestigious residential complexes such as Madinat Al Sultan Qaboos, multi-storey buildings, industrial facilities and over 520 filling stations. Karam is a founding member of the Oman Society of Contractors, Oman Society for Petroleum Services and the Omani Society of Water.
It was a big night for Oman construction’s elite.
Towell Construction & Co picked up the award for Contractor of the Year while SSH was named Consultant of the Year, chiefly for its work on the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Tom Whitehead of ALEC was named as Construction Executive of the Year, while Gerold Bickert of Hoehler + Partner was Project Manager of the Year and Daniel Schulze-Wethmar, also from Hoehler + Partner was Engineer of the Year.

The event was sponsored by Aecom, Famco, Oman Electromechanical Contracting, Logical Decking, CCC, Services & Trade Company, Alemco Zawawi and NAPCO
