QEC bids due in eight months

Bids for the main construction package for the first of five districts in Qatar Entertainment City (QEC), are expected to be invited within the next eight months, according to Kuwait developer United Real Estate Company.

Bids for the main construction package for the first of five districts in Qatar Entertainment City (QEC), are expected to be invited within the next eight months, according to Kuwait developer United Real Estate Company.

The US $3 billion (QAR10.9 billion) South Shore development is also know as Tarfeeh City and covers an area of 1 million m2.

The other four districts in QEC will include Downtown, Boardwalk, North Shore and The Villas.

The five districts will include a theme park, beach-front restaurants, shopping malls, a nature reserve, five-star hotels and residential areas.

The site, which covers 75,500m2, is valued at $262.2 million and will feature villas, apartments and hotels.

According to a company spokesperson, design work on the project is still underway.

QEC is owned by UAE-based Abu Dhabi Investment House.

"The agreement with United Real Estate Company will ensure that the homes and amenities within South Shore at Qatar Entertainment City are developed to the highest standards," said Abu Dhabi Investment House managing director Rashad Y Janahi.
