AD Airports deploys automated boarding system
Air transport IT specialist SITA will deliver traveller document authentication system to validate boarding passes
SITA and Abu Dhabi Airports have signed an agreement for the deployment of a traveller documents authentication system to automate the validation of boarding passes.
The air transport IT specialist’s Airport iValidate product will enhance passenger processing, reduce waiting times and improve security protocols.
Set to go live by June 2015, the automated boarding system will be deployed firstly at the Abu Dhabi International Airport. It will comprise of four security lanes with automatic gates, four mobile/paper boarding pass scanners and four hand-held wireless boarding pass scanners.
Processed boarding passes would be automatically validated, checked for duplication and cross-referenced by the airport’s operational database and by the airline’s departure control system.
Commenting on the system, Ahmad Al Haddabi, chief operations officer at Abu Dhabi Airports, shared: “Effectively managing the balance between continuous passenger flow and stringent security measures is a fundamental part of our operations, and the task is even more important in view of our continued growth.”
He adds: “With new deployed technology A, using self-service feature; verifying passenger documentation will be done quickly and efficiently, while at the same time improving the passenger experience. This is all part of our ongoing programme to deliver a smooth flowing airport that affords passengers sufficient comfort and time to enjoy all the facilities on offer.”
