UK-based developer, Dubai Property Ring, has launched the US $188 million (AED700 million) Time Residences – the world’s first fully rotating tower – which will be located at City of Arabia in Dubai.

Bids for the main construction package will be invited at the end of February.

Construction is expected to start in June 2007 and will be completed during the first quarter of 2009.

The project manager is Kulkarni QS and the tower has been designed by UK firms, Glenn Howells Architects, and Palmer & Turner.

According to the developer, solar energy will be stored and used to drive the rotation mechanism – which will provide 360° views to every resident – and to light communal areas.

Tav Singh, director, Dubai Property Ring, said: “We didn’t want to build just another building or tower, we wanted to create something unique – a precious place to live – a genuine contender to be one of the great buildings in the world.

“This building will represent the very epitome of luxury living, not only will it defy the laws of gravity and momentum, but also it stands to redefine the standards for luxury living in the region and the world,” he said.

James Abbott, senior architect, Palmer & Turner, explained the unique challenges that they face in the coming months: “Time Residences will set new architectural and engineering benchmarks with the whole building turning a complete 360° in the course of seven days.”
