Dubai based paint manufacturer Al Gurg Leighs Paints is the first paint manufacturer in the UAE to become a member of the US Green Building Council (USGBC). The USGBC is responsible for setting the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) green building rating system.

As a result, the majority of Al Gurg Leigh's Paints are to comply with green standards. The company claims that 75% of its Dulux range already complies with standards set for 2010.

LEED is one of the most respected green building schemes in the world. With so many building contractors in the UAE now conscious about environmental issues, our customers can be confident that they are helping to reduce the impact on the environment,? said Sunil Gudur, chief manager, Al Gurg Leigh's Paints.

Interest in LEED and green compliant buildings has skyrocketed since October 2007, when HH Sheik Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, vice president and prime minister of the UAE and ruler of Dubai, issued a decree ordering that all buildings constructed in Dubai from 2008 must comply with green standards.

The UAE currently has only three certified LEED buildings, although it has the highest number of LEED certified or registered projects outside of the US and Canada.
