Fila wins contract for Madinat Jumeirah extension

Jumeirah International has enlisted Fila Surface Care Solutions to supply stone protection for the fourth phase of the Madinat Jumeirah extension

Fila Surface Care Solutions has been awarded the contract to supply stone protection for the Madinat Jumeirah extension.

The project was awarded to Fila’s Middle East office by Jumeirah International, and announced during Middle East Stone 2015.

The contract is the latest in a series of collaborations between the two companies. Fila has provided services for a number of Jumeirah International’s high-profile projects in the UAE.

Commenting on the deal, Said Francesco Pettenon, managing and commercial director of Fila Surface Care Solutions, said: “We have worked with Jumeirah many times in the past, when we protected the external cladding of the Burj Al Arab or the internal floor of Emirates Towers, for example.

“This year, they [Jumeirah International] have entrusted our expertise with one more time to protect all marble surfaces – flooring and countertop – of phase four of Madinat Jumeirah. We will use LEED-compliant, eco-friendly, stain-proof solution to protect their marble surfaces,” he explained.

Fila claims that its in-house, solvent-free products have been adapted to protect stone surfaces from the GCC’s unforgiving climate. In addition to stone, the company is able to provide protection for marble, porcelain, terracotta, and wood.

“This is one more proof that the major construction actors of the region are now fully aware of the importance of protecting stones beforehand, to prevent any irreversible damage,” added Pettenon. “In the past, we have heard of whole buildings whose stone surfaces had to be ripped out and replaced hardly two years after they were built, because they were too damaged. I believe this type of mistake will not happen as often now. Industry professionals now realise that protecting surfaces is an extra cost, but when it comes to long-term cost efficiency, it is worth it; especially in this climate.”

Aside from its ongoing relationship with Jumeirah International, Fila has supplied protective products for a broad range of GCC projects during recent years.

As Pettenon concluded: “We believe our expertise is now well established in the region since we have had the honour of protecting the New Presidential Palace in Abu Dhabi, the new Hamad International Airport in Doha, and the Dubai Tram, to name a few. And we have high hopes for the future.”
