Dubai government-owned developer Nakheel has announced 100 restaurants and shops will open at its new complex, The Pointe, on The Palm Jumeirah.

The $218 million, 1.4m square foot waterfront retail, dining and entertainment complex would feature some well-known brands such as Reem Al Bawadi, Russo's Italian Kitchen, Leopold's of London, Baker & Spice, Red Lobster, Longhorn Steakhouse and Olive Garden.

Retail outlets will include Hamac, Swatch, PureGold, Maybury boutique grocer, Marina Pharmacy and Tips & Toes nail salon, Nakheel said.

The developer also will launch its own food and beverage outlet, it said.

The Pointe, located at the tip of Palm Jumeirah before The Crescent, will overlook The Atlantis hotel and feature water fountain shows and a promenade.

“This vibrant new destination will be a major draw - not only for the island's residents and tourists but for the wider Dubai, too,” said director of Nakheel Retail Omar Khoory.

The announced restaurants and shops account for about two-thirds of the 148 leasable area, with a total of more than 500,000 sq ft.

“We're signing new deals almost daily as more restaurants, cafes and shops seize this opportunity to be part of Palm Jumeirah's ever-evolving success story," Khoory added.

Nakheel said the development was about 30% complete. The first shell and core handovers were due in Q3 2015, while the entire precinct is expected to open in 2016.
