Concorde bags US $45mn job

The Abu Dhabi Sewerage Services Company (ADSSC) has awarded a US $45 million (AED165 million) contract to Concorde Industries to design, fabricate, build and commission a Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) for the largest planned labour accommodation facility in the UAE.

Cansult Maunsell is the consultant. Construction has begun and is expected to be completed in February next year.

The facility will treat waste water from the planned $144 million Construction Workers' Residential City (CWRC) compound in Abu Dhabi's Al Mafraq area.

The plant will have the capacity to recycle used water and sewage of up to 30,000m3/day and will treat the wastewater produced by up to 32,000 workers, technicians and supervisors. Once this water is purified almost to the level of potable water, it will be re-used to serve the needs of machinery and cooling facilities within the CWRC site.

"One of the challenges we face is to complete this mammoth plant in a record time of 11 months. But we are very confident about our engineering capabilities," said Concorde managing director Mahmoud Awad.

MBR STP is the most technologically-advanced wastewater treatment system currently available and Corodex Industries is providing this technology to a number of infrastructural developments throughout the region.

In the UAE, similar technology has been contracted to serve other developments like the Palm Deira and International City.

"The main advantage of an MBR plant is that it is a compact and efficient facility that produces a high-quality end product," said Concorde technical director Ahmad Al Shuha.
