Arcadis has been appointed to manage HSBC’s global capital expenditure programme.

The five-year contract will involve the programme management and regional delivery of the initiative.

Arcadis has stated that its latest contract is in keeping with a growing trend amongst corporates to adopt a programme management approach to capital expenditure delivery.

David Sparrow, global director of Arcadis’s Multinational Client programme, said: “We are very pleased to have been appointed to this role and have the opportunity to expand our work with HSBC to many more markets and disciplines. Our ambition is to help HSBC transform its capital expenditure delivery in order to create [a] sustainable, competitive advantage for its business.

“Our teams will deliver the consistency and assurance of outcome that HSBC can rely on to enable it to succeed,” he added.

HSBC has a property portfolio in excess of 460ha. As global programme manager, Arcadis will be responsible for the oversight, assurance, planning, and control of capital projects, with the aims of improving performance, reducing cost, controlling risk, and minimising HSBC’s environmental impact.

Arcadis will also become HSBC’s primary service provider for project management, cost management, health and safety, sustainability, and risk management for capital projects in the Europe, Middle East, and Asia Pacific regions.

Arcadis contends that the appointment will enable it to build on its existing experience of delivering programme management services to the banking and financial sector. Earlier in 2015, Lloyds Baking Group enlisted the firm to run its design and construction function. The consultant is also fulfilling similar contracts for other global pharmaceutical companies and conglomerates.
