Sustainable concrete could help reduce carbon emissions on projects while increasing the lifespan of assets.

Set to run from the 12 – 13 October 2015, Green Concrete UAE will address the latest strategies and technologies of sustainable concrete.

The conference will also explore its potential application and benefits, which include reducing carbon emissions and increasing the lifespan of assets.

Key themes expected to be discussed at inaugural edition of the conference include regulatory updates and requirements, the use of eco-friendly cementitious material, design of high strength concrete for high rise towers, as well as cement pricing and mechanisms.

While the full speaker list has yet to be unveiled, confirmed speakers include Eng. Abdullah Rafia, assistant director-general for Engineering and Planning Sector, Dubai Municipality; Dr. Rami Hawileh, Prof. Civil engineering, American University of Sharjah; and Amgad O. Gira, director of Contracts and Procurement, Samsung C&T.

The drive behind the conference’s inception stemmed from circular mandate from the Dubai Municipality that called for the use of sustainable concrete across all upcoming projects. Announced back on 1 April 2015, the initiative aims to strategically position the Emirates towards green urban and building planning.

According to figures released by market research firm Frost & Sullivan, the mandatory switch to green cement will likely add an extra forty years lifespan to buildings that utilise the technology. This could potential result in cost savings upwards of $52.3bn for Dubai’s construction sector.

Furthermore, as the call for technologies reducing carbon emissions increases, the green materials market revenue market for construction is projected to reach $23bn by 2016.

Green Concrete UAE 2015 is being organised by Advanced Conferences & Meetings, a business-to-business conference company focused on the MENA region.
