Aramex, the Dubai-based transport and logistics organisation, recently announced the creation of a full-time position of chief sustainability and compliance officer (CSO) to lead the company's ambitious CSR strategy.

Aramex has set ambitious targets in its drive toward sustainability including carbon-neutral status, zero safety incidents and the elimination of leaded gas consumption.
"We believe that sustainability is an integral facet of our business and appointing a dedicated CSO is an indication of our high level of commitment to all stakeholders and a reflection of our values as a responsible global corporate citizen,"? said Fadi Ghandour, founder and CEO of Aramex.

Eighteen-year veteran Raji Hattar, performance and quality expert and head of the company's Customer Relationship Management Team, was named to the position in mid-August. Until now, Hattar has been involved in a number of key corporate milestones, including the development of Aramex's first Corporate Sustainability Report - the first of its kind in the region - the support of the Ruwwad initiative which aims at empowering underprivileged communities and the introduction of hybrid vehicles into the company's fleet.

Hattar's main priorities in his new role include leading economic, environmental and social corporate sustainability projects, as well as integrating these initiatives internally across the network through training programs and systems. In addition, Hattar will be directly responsible for monitoring Aramex's participation in the UN Global Compact Initiative and other international human development treaties.
