L&T appoints new president with GCC experience
S N Subrahmanyan is known to have spearheaded Larsen & Toubro's international developments, including its metro projects in Qatar and Saudi Arabia
Indian construction giant Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has appointed S N Subrahmanyan as its deputy managing director and president with effect from 1 October, 2015, putting him next in line after group executive chairman A M Naik, who retires in 2017.
Subrahmanyan, who has been a board member since 2011, was senior executive vice-president at L&T prior to the appointment.
Subrahmanyan is, at 54 years, the youngest member on the L&T board.
Subrahmanyan has spearheaded major international projects for the firm, including metros in Qatar and Saudi Arabia.
The appointment is seen as a move aimed at grooming him to succeed Naik.
Subrahmanyan, who started his professional career with L&T in 1984 as a project planning engineer, has over the last 30 years played a critical role in driving many of L&T's large and prestigious infrastructure and construction projects, the firm said in a statement.
Commenting the development, Naik, said: "These appointments are in line with our plans for succession and seamless transition of leadership. Mr Subrahmanyan [has] decades of experience in the company, and a proven track record of performance."
