Makkah Municipality said work on the footbridge, which has been planned to ease traffic congestion, will begin next month
Makkah Municipality confirmed it will build the first footbridge in the Sharaie area in east Makkah at a cost of $1.4m (SAR5.3m).
The municipality has announced the location to the implementing company, which will begin work in November 2015.
Head of the municipality's supervision administration, Sharaf Al-Qurashi, said that the location of the bridge was chosen carefully to be situated on Omar Qadhi Street, a busy road with many commercial shops in the area.
He clarified that the footbridge will be carefully designed with escalators.
The project will ease congestion and ensure traffic safety on roads, thus reducing accidents, Al-Qurashi added, according to Arab News.
