Video: Watch Volvo CE build 680km Oman-Saudi road
Saudi's Al Rosan Contracting built 256km of the total road through Saudi Arabia's Empty Quarter (Rub Al Khali)
Saudi Arabia and Oman have completed the construction of a highway linking both countries, which is expected to reduce travel distance between them by 800km.
Al Rosan Contracting, which had been commissioned to build 256km of the road on the Saudi side, said the project had been a big challenge because the road is constructed through shifting sands across the Empty Quarter.
Saudi Arabia’s Empty Quarter (Rub Al Khali) is the most barren desert in the world.
This video shows how 95 Volvo Construction Equipment machines helped build one of the longest road in the Middle East, through one of the harshest, extreme climate in the world, overcoming extreme logistical challenges and achieving demanding service requirements to reach Saudi Arabia’s ambitious infrastructure development program.
