Nakheel awards $626m construction contracts

Nakheel awarded three major construction contracts worth $626m (AED2.3bn) for its retail developments


Dubai-based master developer Nakheel has awarded three major construction contracts worth $626m (AED2.3bn) for its retail developments. 

This includes the main contractor for the Night Souq at Deira Islands, Warsan Souk and The Circle Mall, Nakheel confirmed in a statement. 

The three retail developments will create an additional 2, 300, 000 sq ft of retail space and as many as 6,700 outlets.

United Construction was awarded the $318m (AED1.17bn) contract for the Night Souk and boardwalk at Deira Islands - with construction scheduled for completion in 2018. 

The Souq, which will be a base for 5,300 shops and almost 100 quayside cafes and restaurants, will stretch almost 2kms along the Deira Islands' waterfront.

While, the Warsan Souq, located next to International City, will feature 1,170 shops including two department stores.

Scheduled for completion in 2018, it will form part of the Warsan Village Community.

Finally, The Circle Mall - located at Jumeirah Village Cirle, will boast 432,000 sq ft of space for 235 shops, a multi-screen cinema and various other attractions.

Construction is scheduled to begin shortly, with completion expected in 2018.
