Abu Dhabi ports' cargo volumes rise 19% in 9M 2015

Abu Dhabi Ports saw an increase of 19% in their bulk cargo volumes for the first nine months of 2015, as compared to the same period in 2014.

The volumes increased to 11.2 million tonnes in the first three quarters of 2015 from 9.4 million tonnes in the same period last year.

Abu Dhabi Ports set a record during the first three quarters of 2015 by handling the highest volumes of general and bulk cargo in two consecutive months, July and August.

Combined volumes of around 2.86 million tonnes in these two months marked the highest volumes of general and bulk cargoever managed by Abu Dhabi Ports.

Captain Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi, CEO of Abu Dhabi Ports, said: “Abu DhabiPorts’ increased general and bulk cargo volumes in the first three quarters of 2015 prove that our strategy to invest in innovative technologies, state-of-the-art infrastructure and customer focused services has paid off!”

Zayed Port, the oldest commercial port in Abu Dhabi, handled the vast majority of steel imported and exported through the Emirate.

Zayed Port also witnessed 13% growth in general and bulk cargo volumes in the first nine months of this year compared to the same period in 2014.

New modern cranes and other equipment, and implementation of new technologies like Jade Master Terminal, a terminal operating system as part of an ongoing upgrade have helped Abu Dhabi Ports optimise itsproductivity across the ports.

The surge in general and bulk cargo volumesacross Abu Dhabi Ports indicates rising import and export activities related to industrial and infrastructure development projects in the Emirate.
