Autodesk launches sustainable building design campaign

Drafting software producer Autodesk has launched a sustainable building design campaign in the Middle East, aimed at promoting more efficient energy and water use within buildings.

Drafting software producer Autodesk has launched a sustainable building design campaign in the Middle East, aimed at promoting more efficient energy and water use within buildings.

"As the largest construction market in the region, we have identified the UAE as a strategic location to launch our region-wide campaign to encourage the adoption of sustainable design principles in the construction sector," said Christian Rust, sales development manager, Autodesk. "Amidst the growing popularity of sustainability principles, regional and international property developers are seeking advice on green building compliance, which presents us with a perfect opportunity to disseminate vital information."

Autodesk and similar software producers have pitched their products as being an ideal solution for sustainably designed buildings since the software handles many of the time-consuming menial tasks associated with drafting and design, such as preparing documentation."Your major concern will be the design itself while the documentation and collaboration is done automatically," said Mohannad Al Tabbal, senior application engineer, atOne Software.

According to Emirates Green Building Council (EGBC), a structure constructed in accordance to sustainable principles can achieve energy savings of up to 50%. According to the US Green Building Council (USGBC), over 100 buildings in the UAE are currently awaiting Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification, regarded as the de facto global standard for sustainable building design.
