Trans Gulf Electromechanical landed the Health and Safety Initiative of the Year prize at the 2015 MEP Middle East Awards held on Wednesday 18 November at the Park Hyatt Hotel in Dubai.

The firm secured the trophy for coming up with a creative concept that in addition to the usual training and workshops involved organised drawing competitions with the children to the staff and operatives in UAE and India.

Employees were encouraged to explain their work environment to their families and then the children interpreted what they had been told with drawings.

Judges were also impressed by the firm having racked up 8.2 million man hours without Lost Time Injury so far this year.

Stuart MeGregor, general manager of Trans Gulf Electro-mechanical, said: “It’s absolutely fantastic. We are so pleased to have received this award. From my perspective, as general manager of Trans Gulf, I have to commend Russell Gulick our head of QHSE across all of the GCC and Sri Lanka. The team does an excellent job headed by Russell. Absolutely fantastic completely self sufficient. They are completely motivated in the work they do – and everything they do HSE wise is in the interests of the people that work for us and the public that work around us and it makes sure everybody goes home safe.”

Highly commended was Arabian MEP contracting, with the judges praising it for its ‘comprehensive training programmes’.
