Construction work is currently almost 50% complete for the region's largest entertainment destination, Dubai Parks and Resorts, according to its executives.

The area will include Motiongate Dubai, Bollywood Parks Dubai and Legoland Dubai, together with Legoland Water Park. It will also include Riverland Dubai, a themed retail, dining, and entertainment experience, along with the Lapita Hotel, a Polynesian-themed family resort.

Dubai Parks and Resorts chief projects officer Paul La France told Construction Week that 50% of the construction work is completed for the entire project.

"With 35 contractors and 12,500 workers working round the clock, we are quite on track to complete the project and open the gates by October 2016," said France

He added, "Facade work has already started on the $2.7bn mega project."

Officials expect to attract 6.7m tourists and UAE residents in the first year of operation.
